RUNNING CLUB UPDATE
Run Club President-Elect Matt Riffle
The Waterfront Hall Run Club is making the most of our home field advantage for the upcoming Ogden Wellness Weekend. This past Saturday we previewed the 5k course, and I’d like to take this opportunity to guarantee that our run club members will sweep the top spots in the 5k race. I’ll be running the half marathon and feel very comfortable excluding myself and placing this unexpected and unwanted pressure on my closest friends.
Good news for the rest of you running the half: we’ll be previewing the 29th Street Hill on Saturday, May 17th! I won’t sugarcoat it- this hill is tough. The first time I successfully ran up it, I threw my arms in the air like I was Rocky reaching the top of the Philly Art Museum steps. A woman who lived near the top of the hill cheered me on while simultaneously urging her children back into the house to avoid me.
Running the hill will be a great opportunity for newcomers to get a feel for the course and for seasoned vets to get another training run in before race day. Even if you’re not interested in the hill, please join us - our standard group will also be running a more relaxed route through Wheeling.
It’s especially important that you join us now, because we’re introducing a Runner of the Month! Not unlike your weirdest substitute teacher, I will be taking attendance every Wednesday & Saturday. Whoever shows up the most will earn the title - and while I lack the means and authority to make any promises, I promise you that the winner will receive a tremendous monetary prize from the Waterfront Hall.
As always, see you Wednesdays at 5:45 p.m. & Saturdays at 10:00 a.m.
Editors Note: The Runner of the Month will receive a $30 gift card to Waterfront Hall.
